Font - AITA for reporting my professor There is a new professor (29f) who joined the university I attend, and she is one of the most stuck-up and difficult faculty member I (20f) know. She has a whole list of policies when it comes to classroom management, which includes a line about how no consultations will be entertained unless an appointment has been made at least one day in advance, and it has to include the questions you want her to answer. She claims its to ensure that every session is ef

Font - I was livid, and told her that she was unprofessional, as other professors did not treat their students that way. They were willing to put in more effort in their student's academic journey, something she didn't seem to care about. She asked how was her behaviour unprofessional, since she is only contractually obligated to work until 6pm and she made her instructions abundantly clear. I told her that its her job to help me learn, and she countered back rudely, saying that learning was my

Font - I reported her to the Dean, who definitely had a talk with her, since she's been even colder in class and doesn't engage with us the way she used to. She is even stricter, and refuses to be flexible like she used to be, citing university policies I didn't know existed. My friends who know what I did are pissed, because despite her attitude, she really did bend the rules for them whenever they went to her for help.

Font - halo1234aszx. 4 hr. ago YTA because professors have more obligations than just teaching. Some institutions it is just like 5% of what they have to do and the other 95% is taken up with grant writing, research, publishing, editing, outreach, etc. 2.4k Reply Share

Font - Confused-Geese 2 hr. ago Yeah this was something that shocked me when I went to university. I knew they had to produce research, but one of my professors said that teaching made up only a quarter of their actual workload. It's really not as balanced as I thought it was, it's like an iceberg 379 Reply Share

Font - vivamii 1 hr. ago. edited 1 hr. ago Yeah, booking at least a day in advance and noting down what you want to talk about is completely reasonable! To be fair, if it was just a couple questions here and there my professors had always been happy to answer after class, but I get not all professors might like this. The overall tone of this post just screams entitlement 240 Reply Share

Font - Regrettable Biscuit 43 min. ago booking at least a day in advance and noting down what you want to talk about is completely reasonable The fact that she's asking students to send the questions ahead of time indicates that she actually cares to answer them correctly and exhaustively, and will put thought and maybe research in ahead of time to ensure that. It's bonkers to me that OP takes this as an indication that "she's just lazy."

Font - legal_bagel . 45 min. ago It's very professional to prepare an agenda prior to meeting with someone, especially someone who could be considered a superior. Seems the professor is actually treating college students like adults. All her requirements OP disagreed with will absolutely be mandatory in a professional work environment. I taught as an adjunct at my undergrad one semester, an upper level course, and the students all wanted their hand to be held. I got paid 4500 for the semester as

Font - canuckleheadiam. 23 min. ago Maybe that's the problem. The professor is treating as an adult... but OP refuses to act like one. More like a spoiled teenager.

Font - ~ MOONL1GHT87. 45 min. ago Tbh this is what I do with my boss as well. I work directly under the managing director so if I need him for smth I'll just plan a meeting in his calendar when there's a gap, list the things I want to discuss so he can prepare ahead and that's it. So technically the professor is teaching them... to work in the "real adult world"

Font - Repulsive-Nerve5127. 52 min. ago I work in a university and have seen some of these professors schedules...it is not pretty. Some are literally running through the halls to get to their next class/appt.

Font - MissPicklechips. 34 min. ago I had an environmental biology adjunct professor whose full time job was running a wildlife education and conservation center. I'm shocked he had any time at all to teach. His class was awesome. He would bring animals from the center to class sometimes when we were learning about something related to them.
